General information

Each hospital has different admission requirements and this will be explained to you at the time of booking.

Fasting prior to IV sedation is standard at 6 hours but certain procedures may require a lengthier fast and you will be advised at the time of booking. Unfortunately, if you eat or drink during the fasting times, your procedure may be postponed for safety reasons. You may continue to take your usual medication with a small sip of water no later than two hours prior to your procedure. Some medications require additional precautions e.g. diabetic and analgesic medication.

Please contact the Wakefield Anaesthetic group on (08) 8232 5755 to discuss your medication regime.

Some blood thinning medication will need to be stopped prior to your procedure. If this was not addressed when your appointment was made, please contact the Radiology SA nursing staff on (08) 8402 0286 as soon as possible.

Please ensure you bring all relevant paperwork, previous x-rays, a list of all medications and reading glasses if required. You may bring any medication that you are required to take during your hospital stay.

As part of the safety requirements of this type of anaesthetic you must not drive a vehicle and you must have a responsible adult with you on discharge and overnight.

After admission to the hospital you will be escorted to the radiology department where you will be met by the nursing staff, the anaesthetist and the performing radiologist. You will receive an explanation of the procedure and post procedure care and will sign a consent form.

There may be out of pocket expenses with some procedures and services you receive and this may depend on your private health insurance policy. If you wish to discuss any possible out of pocket expenses that may be incurred please contact our booking staff on (08) 8402 0282.
