PET (Positron Emission Tomography) is now available as a rebatable item in the diagnosis of Alzheimer Disease.
Medicare rebatable PET may be performed for the diagnosis of Alzheimer disease if:
- Clinical evaluation of the patient by specialist, or in consultation with a specialist, is equivocal
- PET or SPECT scan has not been performed in the previous 12 months for the diagnosis or management of Alzheimer's disease
Each patient is eligible for three scans per lifetime.
